as soon as the bell rang, signaling the end of the school day, lina left her classroom and ran to her locker. she slipped into her puffy winter coat—it was very warm despite how it looked—and piled her scarf around her neck. waving a hasty goodbye to her friends, she walked out the huge front doors into the crisp, cold air. winter was certainly coming. no, by the feel of things, lina could quite safely say that it was here. she shivered inside the warmth of her jacket and hurried down the street, eager to get to the studio. their parents were teaching a class of kids right now, and lina wanted to see them.
the road was busy, congested with cars of all kinds. impatient drivers rolled down their windows to stick their heads out. lina simply laughed, not directed at anyone in particular, but more at the relief that she wasn’t stuck in that shit. the sidewalks were better, but not much. at this time of day, students ranging from grade school children to high school teens made their way through the streets, on their way home, or perhaps to an extracurricular activity. lina, however, had no desire for such things; she barely even made the minimum attendance for school. she thought about it for a second. no, she might actually be under the minimal attendance this year. she shrugged. she would have to pick it up if she wanted to graduate.
the sky was a clear blue, and lina tilted her head back, looking up as she walked, whistling a random tune that had popped into her head. ten or so minutes later, she reached the ohayashi family studio, located on the corner of two relatively calm streets in the ginza district. she loved the place, the whole environment, the neighborhood, basically everything. ginza was a beehive of gorgeous activity, filled with colors and movement. lina dropped her bag at the door to the house and called out in greeting to her family. ”oi, i'm home!” there was no response, but that was to be expected. her parents were both teaching classes, her younger brother was still in school, and her older brother was…somewhere. but he was old enough to deal with himself.
lina moved toward the back of the rather large building, where the actual studio and its practice rooms were located. she could hear music playing, and her mother’s voice. her mother was teaching ‘her kids,’ as she liked to call them. lina leaned against the doorway, watching as the kids attempted to follow her mother’s arm wave. normally, she would teach this class, but since today was friday, one of her mandatory school days, and the class was a few hours later on fridays, her mother or father taught it once a week. lina smiled wistfully, swaying back and forth instinctively with the music as she watched the children learn.▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫ ▫
