pop sensation yamanaka koharu was pumped for this event. to be chosen to mc and judge this event was a very big deal for her. she donned one of her most popular outfits with a holiday flair to it - a santa suit in her signature black and blue colors. her hair was tied off to the side and headphones covered her ears as she stood up on stage and happily introduced the singers in the contest.
"koharu here~! it's about time we start our contest, huh? let's give it up for airi, lanka, cain, kazuo, chiharu, chihiro and hikaru, everyone!" she exclaimed and motioned her hand for the singers to come up on stage.
"everyone here is going to sing you a song of their choice, and once everyone has gone, a winner will be chosen by me and my own special judges. the winner will receive a copy of my newest album, signed, and will have a song dedicated just for them!" she laughed and put on a grin for everyone.
"let's begin, shall we? up first we have yuugamisora airi-chan!"

What was she doing here? It repeated itself in her mind, over and over, as she walked up the stage with 6 other people. Oohhh, and she was going to be the first one, wasn't she?
"let's begin, shall we? up first we have yuugamisora airi-chan!"
"Ah!" She was right! 'But there’s no sense in panicking now, Riri.' She thought to herself. 'Let's just get this over with already!' She straightened out her light blue dress and tried to arrange her hair a bit more, adjusting the little white flower Kai had given her earlier. Oh, if only her older brother was here right now... but he didn't know what she was doing. At least, as far as she knew he didn't. Though, he had been the one to make her come here... What if he was the one who signed her up?! Her knees shook, less than she thought it would have, however, and she gripped her microphone tightly. Wait, since when had she been holding a microphone? The music started (she already told them what song she was going to sing?!) --
"Hey, yeah... Hunoh~ Hoh..."
-- and the first line appeared on the screen. 3, 2, 1...
"Can I still believe in you? fuan dakedo shinjiteitai no... mmm kitto kore ga ai nan datte kienai mono nan datte hajimete oshiete kureta hito dakara"
Yes, she wasn't shaking anymore!
"I'm not saying it's a promise yakusoku de wa nai datte kotoba wa aimai deshou motto tanjun na koto nanda aisarete ureshikute tada aitai kara~"
Airi took a deep breath and shifted her position; she felt so stiff! Now, here comes the chorus...
"I'll be waiting! wasurenai yo wasurenai yo dakara kyou mo ano hi no you ni matteru yo matteru yo samishii kedo daijoubu okaeritte tsuntsunde kure taattakai mune no kodou ga kikoesoude missing you
Hooh... Oh~ Hoh..."
She sang the next half of the song feeling much more confident. After all, she'd finished the first part with only a couple of mistakes here and there that would probably, hopefully, go unnoticed... And then, it was over. The brunette sighed in relief. 'That was... actually quite fun! Maybe... I should do this more often...?' But she quickly dismissed the thought. She was probably the only one who enjoyed her performance... ah, but that didn't matter as long as she herself had fun, right? And so, Airi gave her biggest smile as she bowed, not caring about, or even noticing, the reaction of the audience in the room that day. She half-trotted off the stage and found her way to the table reserved for the contestants, as they were told earlier. She sat on one side, not wanting to see the stage straight on, and waited for the next contestant's performance.

koharu clapped and seemed excited to have such a wonderful singer on stage already. she'll make it be in the industry someday~
the bluette smiled and offered airi a smile and spoke into her headset. "again, that was yuugamisora airi-chan, everyone! a cutie, right? the audience chuckled as she giggled and she turned her head behind her. "our next contestant is hachirou lanka! please come right up to the stage~"
well, let's see how he does, hm? koharu had nothing but a smile on her face.

His head snapped from from the drink he was staring at. The last girl was alright, her voice having a good amount of tone and pitch. He had to admit, he was expecting horrible singers out of this lot. Lanka nodded once to himself, grabbing his guitar as he made his way up to the stage. He had actually kind of set this up so he could both play his guitar and sing at the same time, while the rest of the song he wanted to sing would be playing in the background so he wouldn't have to bring a band. He wasn't sure if that was bending the rules a little or what, but they allowed it so he figured that it wasn't too bad.
"Oh My Juliet, L.M.C." He said it like he was performing it not a karaoke as he set up his guitar to the amps. He tuned it quickly as the song was set up and he turned back to the audience. With a small pop, the guitar sounded in his hands. Soon the recorded
"Step by step, kimi to deatte toki wo wasurete odoriakashita Hoshi ni yadoru unmei wo shirazu ni, I can't stop falling love!
Fujitsu na tsuki no kaketa moraru ni terasareru no wa michita desire Unmei wo daita boku wa sakenda Wherefore art thou Juliet?
His hands were steady and his voice was spot on, the sound of well trained vocal chords. His lips were close to the microphone, the pick in his hands plucking quickly at the metal guitar strings to create a growling harmony.
"'Nee kamisama kotaete yo dou sureba negai wa kanau? Aa...ima sugu aitakute yozora ni naku yo Oh my sweet Juliet...'"
His foot smacked on the petal to change the sound into a more acoustic sound for a moment, his pick sliding between two fingers as he finger picked out this next part before switching back to the growling sound and continued singing.
"I am the fortune's fool! I hold cancelled love! I am the fortune's fool! I hold too much sadness!
The song ended and he stepped back from the microphone with a small smile, lifting his hand with the guitar in it, gathering cheers from the audience. That small smile turned into a grin as he un-plugged his guitar and walked down for where he was sitting before, offering no other words. Words would just spoil the illusion of a performance, don't you think? notes Weee! Here's what he was singing: click |

Coughing into one hand, a young woman stumbled into the spot Yamanaka Koharu once vacated. "A-Ah, I'm sorry! Yamanaka-san went on a bit of a potty break, you see..." Glancing at the contestants nervously, the young woman wiped at the sweat beading across her forward.
"Could someone please turn down the heat? Thank you..." she mumbled, fidgeting. There was a an awkward silence for what seemed like forever. Mustering up her courage, she spoke into the mic, only to stop midway when a loud, screech sounded.
"Holyshit—I mean. The next contestant on stage will be Cain Pontellier! G-Ganbatte!"

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style,border: 0px dotted][atrb=width,450,true] IF YOU'RE CUT, I'LL BLEED so go on, carve into your own heart, i could use a new scar or a brand new start Anxiety was nothing to Cain. He smiled and strived in the face of it because, really, what was there to be anxious for, exactly? Nothing at all. Just a game, a way to pass the time. And it showed in his languid gait to the microphone. Perhaps that was because he was not forced to perform in a language he could not speak fluently, nor hide the slight lilting trill in his voice. The rhythm of the song was imprinted in the mind, and every rolled ‘r’ and silent letter as natural as his alphabet. All was right in the world, as it always was.
“Mélodie by Pep’s, s’il vous plait.” He rather liked the song, so why not, hm?
With the faintest of smiles, he plucked the microphone from its stand and pulled it a bit closer to himself, the fingers of his other hand lightly tapping like a metronome to keep the time and the beat slowly filtering into his ears.
With each held note, he fell back on his heels a bit and waited to cut it off with the same enigmatic little smirk. French was a Frenchman’s game, and he played it well enough, that much was certain. And if only this once, he could give the slightest of nods of appreciation to his father’s never-ending streaming of this one song. It helped burn every change of pitch and tempo into his head, if only a little bit.
So far, so good, ne? He continued to lightly drum his fingertips against the microphone as he ran through the second half of the song, comfortably settled into his native tongue and the intonations therein as the guitar strummed and the cymbals crashed in the background.
The last note lingered just a moment longer than was particularly necessary, mainly for the effect, partially because, as anyone who'd ever seen Cain listen to music would know, he had the habit of getting somewhat lost in it. It was just one of a few subtle mistakes he made in his carelessness--a slight lag here, a bit of breathlessness during the third verse because he had forgotten how quickly one followed the other, but nothing too overtly out of place he would think. Familiarity helped, being a foreigner singing a foreign song wasn't all that bad either. And fuck it, he wasn't aspiring to quit his day job anyways.
With a rather haughty smirk, the pale-haired youth flicked a slight wave to the adulating crowd and set the microphone back into its stand before padding off of the stage.
▪ COMMENTARY: /EFFORT. Yup, I'm lame. 8I Here's the song, enjoy?

"sorry about that everyone! don't worry, koharu is back now~" well, that was embarrassing, having to go take a potty break in the midst of everything - well, stars had their flaws, right?
uwaaah, she looked towards cain as he left stage and gave him a golf-clap. "what a beautiful singer, ne? that was our cain pontellier, let's give him another round of applause! now..." she paused, looking to her clipboard and adjusted the headset on her head.
"it looks like we have... takemura kazuo-kun up next! let's give him a warm welcome!"

The eldest Takemura brother was nothing but haughty as he made his way up the stage, crimson eyes so wickedly lit in a devil's mischief as he glanced out amongst the crowd through a sly side-glance. Oh, the others before him had sung admirably. Cain, of course, had offered such a delightful French spin to this Japanese affair. Admittedly, Kazuo had enjoyed listening to the way his pale companion had adorned the place in such an appeasing tone of voice. Leave it to a Frenchman to have a crowd swooning, hm? But the suave, dark-haired host did not seem daunted. After all, he sought no triumph in the prize... but in the game itself.
Where others had introduced the title of their song, Kazuo was deceptively quiet. He just inclined his head briefly toward the audience, as one might administer a well-mannered bow. With that, he took to the white piano that was poised so perfectly on the small stage. The point of karaoke may have been to sing from lines shown on a screen, but Kazuo had always been one to delight in what was considered unexpected. Besides, he felt that the song he'd picked would sound so lovely in a piano adaption. So, after breathing a soft sigh and letting his fingertips caress over the ivory keys, he set them into motion. The grin on his face softened as his expression turned into one of mock sentimentality, as though this was a song that touched his twisted little heart. His eyelids even fluttered closed for a moment in melodramatic appreciation of the tune his fingers drew from the keys. Oh, yes. This was a song that cut right through to the soul. Such splendor, such grandeur...
"We're no strangers to love You know the rules and so do I A full commitment's what I'm thinking of You wouldn't get this from any other guy I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling Gotta make you understand"
Briefly, there may have been a sliver of an impish gleam in his eyes; the barest trace of a smirk caught in his adoring smile. But then it resumed the expression of heart-felt emotion that he portrayed flawlessly. The boy could act, that much was certain. And wasn't this all about putting on a show? Ah, yes. The chorus...
"Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you."
The young pianist certainly wasn't shy about flaunting his skills with the instrument he mastered with dexterous fingers. He would occasionally gesture to the crowd, though, and let one hand draw out the tune for a second or two. Some were points with an index finger, others were brief, flourishing sweeps to encourage emotion. He even winked at a girl seated near the foot of the stage, then tossed his hair back to continue with his singing. The cunning Cheshire Cat did manage another slight grin to himself when he leaned closer to the microphone hung over the keys that he continued to dance his fingers across.
"We've known each other for so long Your heart's been aching but You're too shy to say it Inside we both know what's been going on We know the game and we're gonna play it And if you ask me how I'm feeling Don't tell me you're too blind to see
Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you."
And the song continued. Oh, what emotion Kazuo put in his performance! He'd let one of his hands clutch at his chest a few times to suggest that the song was had met with the very core of his soul. This, of course, made his singing all the more involved in the song; all the more passionate and full of life. It continued this way until he finally found his way to the end of it, body swaying actively to the tune as any good performer might when engulfed in such a moving melody. Sure, actually partaking in the conventional sense of karaoke might have left more room for dancing, but this had been worth it.
"Never gonna give you up Never gonna let you down Never gonna run around and desert you Never gonna make you cry Never gonna say goodbye Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you.~"
He let the final note hang in the air. Then, the pianist took a moment or two staring at the keys, like a great artist who was trying to collect himself after sorting through strong sensations of inspiration. His body finally turned on the bench in a languid swing of his hips and he rose to his feet with a contented sigh. He bowed at the waist this time, as he did with all his formal concerts, then stood and blew a kiss to the audience before making his way off the stage. I'm awesome. Sure, Kazuo wasn't a professional singer, so it might not have been perfect, but that had never been the intention. This cat did not seek to snag the mouse in its claws, merely entertaining the idea of watching them squirm in confusion. Yes, the game was more satisfying than the prize. This time, anyway. So the troll young musician returned to his seat, lips drawn into a content smile.
